We are thrilled to welcome Ben Hewetson as a Non-Executive Director on the Pretty Technical board. With an impressive background in strategic planning, board advisory and private equity in gaming and other industries, Ben brings a wealth of experience that will support PT’s continued growth and innovation. His expertise in guiding businesses through strategic expansion through to exit makes him a fantastic addition to the team.
To introduce him to our network, we sat down with Ben to discuss his career journey, what inspired him to join the board, what excites him about PT, and his insights on the future of the iGaming and Technology sectors.
Welcome to the Pretty Technical board, Ben! Could you start by telling us a bit about your background and career journey so far?
Despite growing up on a farm in Yorkshire I have spent most of my career in the financial services sector in London. I first qualified as a chartered accountant and after a spell in banking, the bulk of my career has been in and around Private Equity. I spent 11 years as an investor (including the gaming sector) and 12 years advising founders & management teams on strategy and interactions with private equity. I have sat on 8 boards over the years, most recently I chaired an education business for 10 years, which was successfully sold to private equity 3 years ago.
What attracted you to Pretty Technical, and why did you decide to take on this non-executive director role?
PT has developed a really interesting range of products and has an excellent reputation in the market. The management team is both high calibre and high integrity which is hugely important to me in terms of who I enjoy working with. But most importantly, I believe I can offer the right kind of support at this particular stage of its journey.
You have extensive experience in private equity and strategic advisory. How do you see these skills contributing to PT’s growth and long-term strategy?
The company has spent its first few years developing a range of products and proving its worth in the market. It is now at a juncture where different decisions have to be made in terms of strategic direction, which is exactly where I can help. Moreover, with new money having been raised a whole new bank of options are available to it, so I can offer rigorous appraisal to those options so that the management team can move forward at pace but with confidence.
The iGaming and Technology sectors are evolving rapidly. From your perspective, what are the biggest opportunities and challenges in the space right now?
There is a huge proliferation of new entrants in the market and PT is in an excellent position to support them. The real opportunity is to get their products into the right customers across Europe and cement its long term future. However we need to target strong and competitive customers to ensure stability to future earnings of PT.
We’re thrilled to have on you board. In your view, what makes a strong and effective board, and how do you see your role in shaping PT’s future?
I am here simply to support, guide and advise the incredibly capable management team as they execute their growth strategy. Future success will be theirs and I will be happy to offer whatever help I can.
Pretty Technical CEO, Emma Blaylock, said “Ben’s appointment marks an exciting chapter for Pretty Technical as we continue to grow in the ever evolving iGaming and Technology space. We look forward to working with Ben and seeing the impact of his valuable contribution and expertise. Welcome to the team!“
