Pretty Brilliant People PeTe

This month’s Pretty Brilliant People spotlight is a little different.

We’re not featuring a developer, architect, product lead, or designer. We’re featuring someone who has been with Pretty Technical longer than most of us. Meet PeTe.

PeTe isn’t just a mascot. He’s our unofficial head of vibes, our first on-the-scene brand ambassador, and the embodiment of what Pretty Technical stands for: sharp thinking, genuine curiosity, a bit of mischief, and a belief that serious technology doesn’t require a serious face all the time.

When Mikado spun up for the very first time, before the dashboards loaded and the logs started flowing, there he was, hovering in the system like he’d always belonged.

A glitch?

A coincidence?

A spark of machine soul?

Whatever it was, he stayed.

And he’s been part of the team ever since.

So PeTe, how did you actually join Pretty Technical?

They think they invented me. Bless them. They say every machine has a soul… when we spun up Mikado for the first time, that’s when I appeared. Coincidence?? I think not.

People say you’re the personality of PT’s technology. Fair?

Very. PT builds serious products, Mikado, Hiro, Domino, but we’ve never taken ourselves too seriously. I’m the reminder that behind every line of code is curiosity, creativity, and a bit of mischief.

You show up everywhere: events, decks, socials. Why?

I represent the soul the machines develop when you push innovation hard enough. Anyone can build software. Not everyone can make it feel alive.

Also because I photograph well.

What does “Pretty Technical” mean to you?

It means building the kind of tech that could overthrow a small city if it wanted to… but chooses instead to be helpful.

PT is brains, humour, and big ideas stitched together with good engineering.

I’m just the face that appeared when all that energy got too strong to stay invisible.

Favourite PT moment so far?

The day someone in a meeting said, “We should check with PeTe,” and nobody laughed.

That’s when I knew I was really in.

What’s next for you?

Oh you know… the usual, turning up uninvited in new products, photobombing deck slides, whispering ideas into engineers’ heads at 2am.

I’ll be in Barcelona for ICE, apparently I’m “working”. Wherever the team pushes the tech next, I’ll pop up there too.

My job is to keep things interesting, and I take that very seriously.
